Since I think I'm the only one that's computer literate here (IE, I've built my own computer and know how to troubleshoot it), I'm going to ask a few questions.
What games will you be playing?
What else are you going to use your computer for?
Will you be taking it to college/need it for school?
What is your budget?

*Defers to Andrea*
Biggest question is probably laptop vs desktop and then you can take it from there.

Re: computer/compy parts
Depends on the type of gaming and what you want in a computer.
Proper gaming laptops perform perfectly well if you spend a reasonable amount on them, and if you require the portability/space saving that a laptop affords.
If you don't need the portability and prefer desktops, then they are certainly the way to go cost and power wise.
But I must admit, it drives me slightly nuts to hear people say they suck for gaming when they don't. They're just not as powerful as desktops, and to be perfectly honest, unless you're looking at performance benchmarks, then you really won't notice that much, if any of a difference between a good gaming laptop and a desktop.

Re: computer/compy parts
Oh and Ala here's what my friend recommended http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/threads/the-falcon-computer-build-guide.498772/ (that I am in the excellent/outstanding column) but to do my research. The only thing I absolutely need/want is the GTX 670,i5 and antec/seasonic 520w(620 would be over kill) PSU
other than that, i'm not too picky..

As I said, I need to know the answers to the questions I asked to determine if that's good for you or not. Because depending on exactly what you're doing, that could even be overkill.

What games will you be playing? Anything I can. Guld wars, Just cause 2, tf2, minecraft (on fancy graphics ftw finally) Video editing software, portal 1 and 2 basically Can I run it makes me cry. It says "go fuck yourself"
Battle field on ultra, because I will be able too, and if I'm in a good enough mood maybe WoW. Crisis on Ultra :3 Basically I'm tired of my computer saying "sorry, but you can fuck yourself over. you can not play these games because you need a better CPU, GPU, PSU, and RAM"
What else are you going to use your computer for? Gaming and some video editing software, mostly the first thing.
Will you be taking it to college/need it for school? Yes.
What is your budget?1000-1325

Re: computer/compy parts
You do know a GTX 670 is around $420? That's nearly half of your budget, and to be honest it's not needed to play those games adequately. I'm only running a VTX3D 6870x2, and I play games just fine and that's a fairly old GPU by today's standards. If you get a 670, you're going to have to scrimp on the other parts at that price range.
Are you sure you don't want a laptop? There are very nice 'gaming' laptops that can play all of those games really well and are a little over $1000. (The only downside would be lack of upgrading, but I'm not sure if you'd even be comfortable doing that.) It'd also make it easier when you head off to college, especially if you'll be in dorms.
This is what I'd get personally at that price range:
ASRock Z77 PRO3 Motherboard
Intel i5-2500K
EVGA SuperClocked GTX 570
Antec NEO ECO 520w
G.Skill 2x4GB DDR3 1600
CoolerMaster 212+ CPU Cooler
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB (mechanical drives are kind of expensive now thanks to the flooding in Thailand)
Comes to $816.93
All you need to do would be to pick a case and a CD/DVD drive if you were building it yourself.

Re: computer/compy parts
Oh. I read that the wrong way the first time.
You said you weren't even a gamer/know anything about computers and now you want a GTX 670? It's complete overkill and you'd probably want to go with a 620W PSU then for a little overhead.
The build/parts I listed are fine for the games you said you wanted to play.
