My first yuri anime was Strawberry Panic!

I was actually quite amused watching it, as it was clearly cheesy, cliche and camp and yet it had something that made it addictive as all hell.

Realistically I should have hated it for it's inconsistent story, melodrama and vapid characters, but I found myself enjoying it beyond all reason.

I am actually watching it again with Alaeri, and it's still as much fun as I remember.

... And yes, the story is still rather terrible.

Sailor Moon. Or at least it was the first anime I watched where I started going, 'Hey, those two girls are more than friends...'

The first anime that got me into Yuri was Noir. It honestly was the fanfiction more than anything else though Back then, after I finished a series I would read the fanfiction for it, and since Noir only really had Yuri fics for the most part, I just rolled with it. It made sense to me at any rate lol.

My first yuri anime was Marimite, and at the time I was all "O_O this is so amazing! Two girls are interacting with each other!" I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Then I kept waiting and waiting for something to happen and juuuust as the subtext wasn't doing it for me anymore they brought in Sei's story so I got all happy... And then we all know how that turned out lol.

I actually read it in the manga first, then watched the anime for a few seasons. But I soon got tired of subtext and nothing else. If there was an action element, or fantasy or something else, even school life stuff, I could have dealt with it. But for an anime to pretty much be romance themed and nothing else and then not actually go through with the romance, I don't feel like there's much there at all.

After Marimite I kinda snapped back into the other direction and followed it with Strawberry Panic! XD;;

i DID watch a few episodes of sailor moon when i was reallyyyy young but huh, my gaydar must have been completely switched off back then (now it works just fine... lol).

Utena.

What did you think of it when you first watched it?
I loved it even though it gets weird by the end. xD The whole girl being a prince was a total win for me.

Do you still think the same about it and does it still hold up? Why or why not?
Yup. I have the DVDs and the mangas and enjoy watching Utena fighting and Anthy being...Anthy. XD

Mine was Utena, although I didn't even know there was such a thing as the "yuri" genre at the time (yet alone that it was unusual for the two females to get a happy ending together back then!). I loved it right from the first notes of the opening theme music and still love it now (indeed, my wife and I are re-watching it as each Nozomi box set is released; we're going through the final set presently).

I am much like Dezo except my first yuri anime was KnM. I was only looking for a show that had lesbians in it since The L Word is total shit. Anime is a lifesaver

I'm afraid I forgot. I watched so many yuri anime all at once and it was a few years ago. :C But I remember feeling "embarrassed" when I was watching Strawberry Panic!, meaning I was still new to it all. So that could be one of the first.

Yeah, I'm not sure with anime, I've seen a LOT of junk over the years...I'd say "Urusei Yatsura," but even now I'm not sure if I wasn't just filling in for subtext.

I'd say that Sasameki Koto is the first one I've watched that was indisputably text, not subtext.

Now, if you want to get some dating down, I saw more yuri in fanfics than anime, or even manga - which makes sense, since you can pander all you please in the doujin world. So, I'd say my first taste of yuri in fiction was...

Hmmm....my very exposure to yuri was not as direct as it can go. I wasn't really open with the idea of slash pairings so I had no idea that pairing two people of out the normal was okay but I ended up doing it anyway.

Ever since then, I became aware that "yuri" is a genre and people are actually liking it. Unfortunately, the place where I live doesn't show anything out of the norm so it really came as a surprise.

Anyway, my first take was Strawberry Panic. It was my starter but I cannot say for sure that I really liked it that much. I guess I'm still the type who takes the pleasure of shipping non-canon. :V

wut?" I was kinda giggling silly at the mechas, but the love triangle
interested me. It was my first yuri that I sat down and actually knew
that I was getting into a girlxgirl story so I watched it for that
mostly.

Do you still think the same about it and does it still hold up? Why or why not?
Eh, I don't think it holds up as much now, but I know there are worse
stories out there. Still, it's my first yuri so it holds a special place
in my hearts so silly or not, I can't really bring myself to dislike
it. =P

Rui, we're the exact opposite with pairings. XD You're a non-canon person were as I usually stick with canon pairings and don't stride too far away.

What was your first yuri anime?

-Well... The first one with actual strong yuri themes that I watched was Mai HiME. But before that, I'd watched Excel Saga, which had a lone yuri parody episode.

-Going with Mai HiME here, at first I was more interested in the het pairings, actually, but the fandom for Shiznat eventually drew me in.

Do you still think the same about it and does it still hold up? Why or why not?

-Hmm, it has been a bit of time since I've watched it, but I'd say it probably still does hold up. There really hasn't been much since that could top it (this depends a bit on personal preference, of course). This is looking at the series as a whole, mind you. If you're looking specifically at the yuri content, it's more likely that you might find something stronger.

Ahhhhhhh... No. XD I tried re-watching it and I couldn't get through it. I got bored real quick and started watching something else. I will always love the parodies that you can find on YouTube though.

Somebody recommended it to me, when I asked for suggestions for new stuff for me to watch regardless if it was an older series or newer and what it contained.

I do think of it the same way. But does it still hold up? Maybe, but I might have to watch it again to know for sure. My memory is a bit faulty at best.

Oh my, I'd have to say Strawberry Panic. I was in Tohsaka's room the other night when I discovered her laptop. Safe to say I was in the mood for something more exciting that night, and took a chance and opened it.

She was on episode thirteen of Sp, and it caught my attention. Not because I'm a pervert you FOOLS, just because of the fact that I think its cute. Sadly Rin burst in and found me watching it on her bed, safe to say she wasn't very happy. I still have a shoe print upside my head, but it was worth it.
