Midland [Group, Open to anyone] - Setting and Characters

The Setting (copied from the other thread)

The World: Like our own, for now at least. The
political system is just a bit different though (just so we don't get
into an uncomfortable discussion of real-world politics within the RP).

Midland University: High school settings
are really overdone in anime, so this will be something just a bit
different.

This university is seemingly a normal, high-end
university, save for a couple of odd scholarships that no one applies
for, and are offered to seemingly-random people across the world. To
someone who regularly attends the university, the oddities within it
start to add up:

-The Art building has a few exhibits on
permanent display which don't seem to be art at all. No one seems to
remember the artists behind them, and rules from the administration
prevent removal of these exhibits.

-The Archaeology department
maintains a closet of oddities, which have been found all over the
world, but seem to match no known culture (and occasionally seem to
imply a high-level of technology, though none of it is functional).

-The
architecture of the Math building is just a bit odd. The building is
square, and all the walls are perfectly straight, but the corners are a
bit wider than perfect right angles.

-The on-campus dormitory has
one more row of windows visible from outside than it has accessible
floors, though the top row of windows are always dark. The official
explanation is that it's the thirteenth floor, and enough people
complained about having to live on it that they no longer assign any
students there. This doesn't explain why the elevators only go up to the
twelfth floor though, or why there are stairs to the roof that don't
have any visible exit to the thirteenth floor.

The Characters: Various students who came to the
university on scholarship, plus a few faculty members and other
employees of the university who seem to have agendas of their own. These
students gradually begin to notice strange abilities awakening within
them at the university, and their dreams begin to paint a coherent
narrative of a past life, but within a world that's nothing like our
own.

The Plot: My writer-sense is telling me to keep it a secret.
But in broad strokes, the student characters will find themselves
gradually drawn into a conflict from another world, with different
students ending up on different sides. It's unclear who's on the right
side of this conflict, or even if either side is. This other world
doesn't seem to exist anymore, but various items throughout the
university seem to be connected to it, and there just might be a way to
bring parts of that world back.

Try to be descriptive about their personalities, so if anyone else wants to talk with them and guess at a few responses/reactions, they'll have a good idea what your characters will do.

Personality: She's the level headed older sister of Nathan. She keeps him in check with a stern attitude. She's very work oriented and can't really take a joke.


Some of my slots aren't filled in because I honestly don't know what angle we're going for with the powers. Are we going just elemental stuff, like each character controls an element? Or are we doing almost an X-Men thing where people have strange abilities? (i.e. ability to stretch limbs, walk through walls, etc.)
In addition, sorry their personalities are a bit bare. I usually let them flesh themselves out during the rp.
